Welcome from Chairperson and Project
Coordinator, Kath Duncan

What a wild journey!

Over the past three years The Last Avant-Garde team has been running disability-led inclusive arts workshops across Australia. We were looking for disability performing arts practice across the nation. We collaborated with 150 artist-participants in Sydney, Melbourne, Alice Springs, Brisbane, Perth, Hobart and Adelaide. We worked with the support of every peak Arts and Disability organisation, 15 disability arts facilitators, as well as independent arts companies across Australia.

Congratulations and appreciation to everybody who contributed to this work. It’s been the best job ever, leading a project on the creative powers of disability and Deafness. We have so much to show you.

This website is based on the collaboration between artist practitioners and researchers from the Australian Research Council Linkage Projects grant Disability and the Performing Arts in Australia: Beyond the Social Model, known to our collaborators as The Last Avant-Garde.

We thank our institutional partners, Arts Access Victoria, The University of Melbourne, and The University of Sydney.
